“In Vermont, a summer camp for teen-age auteurs.”      -The New York Times

The Vermont Arts Institute works to create a dynamic and professional environment where young artists can explore and learn the crafts of film, theatre, writing, dance, animation and visual arts. Through VAI’s intensive programs, students are immersed in a hands-on learning experience. Close collaboration with practicing professionals empowers participants to create art and make it their own.

Artistic Director Bess O’Brien has produced theater and film for twenty years in New York and Vermont. She co-founded Kingdom County Productions in 1991 with Jay Craven and is KCP’s Producing Director. Her award-winning documentaries include Here Today (2002), Where is Stephanie (1998) and Journey into Courage (1996). A Theater Studies graduate of Mt. Holyoke College, Bess founded the Vermont Ensemble Theater (1985-88) where she produced more than a dozen shows, including the world theatrical premiere of Frederico Fellini’s La Strada.

The Vermont Arts Institute offers one-week and two-week programs. 2005 dates will be announced soon. Students interested in film and screenwriting programs can visit Kingdom County Productions at
